Founded over 30 years ago by Carl R. Springs, Sr., Archie N. Evans, and William “Billy” H. Dewitt, Jr; Florence Steel Erectors, Inc. has grown to be one of the premier steel erection companies in the south east. Two of the founding partners still have an active role in the daily operations. Now succeeded by the second generation, Florence Steel Erectors, Inc. continues a tradition of Safety, Quality, and Production. “We are committed to completing the job for our customers, on time, on budget and without accidents” says, Stephen Ham, now president in charge of daily operations. “Our families built this business on that principal and we intend to carry on those practices as we continue to grow. In 2003, we were one of the first steel erection companies in the south east and the first in South Carolina, to become certified as an Advanced Steel Erector by the American Institute of Steel Construction. Dad saw that the certification would be very important in the future and it has truly provided us the opportunity to participate in many projects that, without it, we wouldn’t be able to. Now many erectors strive for that same recognition; that’s just another example of my dad’s wisdom. William H. Dewitt, Jr. , Chief Executive Officer, is in charge of estimating and assists with the daily operation of our business. “Billy is still a very integral part of our business, I lean on him when I can. He has a lot of experience with different business climates and growth that are invaluable. You don’t get that kind of knowledge or should I say wisdom, from a book.” says Stephen. Carl Springs, Jr. “Little Carl”; now vice president, handles field operations and has a history of twenty plus years with Florence Steel Erectors, Inc.. “Little Carl” has the field experience, knowledge and know how to successfully complete any size project. He also had a hand in training our current foremen and continues to teach every day. “Little Carl is a tremendous asset to our operation, as he has always been. His skill set, learned from the Late Carl R. Springs, Sr. , is second to none” says Stephen. Archie N. Evans, Secretary, still runs a crew after participating in the founding of Florence Steel Erectors, Inc. “Archie also brings a lot of field experience and knowledge to our operation”, says Stephen. We have assembled the best group of office personnel, field personnel, and management to carry on the fine history of steel erection that Florence Steel Erectors, Inc. has built by collectively striving for the same goals of Safety, Quality and Production in a small “family-like” business. |
